MANILA – Sy-led SM Prime is planning to open an SM City mall branch in Legazpi City next year, a city official said.
Legazpi City Planning and Development Office chief Engr. Joseph Esplana said SM is looking at two lots as options for the proposed mall.
One of the options is an almost one-hectare vacant lot within a new urban development hub along Legazpi Boulevard.
Another option is the Legazpi domestic airport, which will be vacated as soon as the new airport begins operations.
SM is operating a Save More branch in Legazpi Central Terminal, as well as two branches of Banco de Oro in the city.
Esplana said SM’s plan to expand in Legazpi is a result of the massive urban development that the city government is undertaking.
SM is also set to open its fourth largest mall in the country, SM Seaside City in Cebu, late this year.
SM Prime currently has 58 malls, six of which are located in China.
